Join Me at an Upcoming Event
Dear Neighbor:
Spring is finally upon us! The leaves and flowers are at last emerging from their winter slumber; birds, bees and butterflies are once again whirling overhead; youth sports are gearing up for another exciting season; and families are heading off for Spring Break!
In keeping with the season, I have been out walking the blocks of our City and knocking on doors so that I can meet you and hear your thoughts about our City’s direction and what you’d like to see from your Mayor and your City Council. So, if you happen to see a somewhat bedraggled looking, grey-haired fellow with glasses and a clipboard on your block between now and the start of early voting on April 24, come on over and say Hi!
Additionally, I have two upcoming events put together by wonderful friends where I’d love to see and talk with you, so please come on by!
Friday, March 24, 5:30 – 7:00 p.m., at the home of Russ and Monica Ybarra, 3006 Sunset (at the corner of Belmont, directly across from Weir Park). Russ and Monica are the family behind Gringo’s Mexican Kitchen; Russ was named UH Downtown’s Social Work Person of the Year in 2020; and their home was recently featured in Luxe Magazine. Light food and non-alcoholic refreshments will be served. The whole family is welcome to the meet and greet.

Saturday, March 25, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., at the home of Ned and Cathy Graber, 4209 Riley (between West Point and Community). Ned and Cathy are both West U Rotarians and long-time supporters of our community. After a day at the ballpark, in the garden, or running errands around the town, this is a great opportunity to cool off in the company of friends and neighbors; please join us for a scoop! The street will be blocked off, so children can bring their scooters and bikes and adults can bring your chairs to sit in the shade and talk.
No RSVP is necessary for either of these events. Come and go as you can. I look forward to seeing you around our City!
Your Neighbor,
John P. Barnes
